About
I was born and raised in Israel. Though I’ve lived in the U.S. most of my life, I’ll always be an Israeli. For the past 40 years, Israel had been relegated to my emotional back burner. But 2023 has been different.
For 40 Saturday, hundreds of thousands of Israelis demonstrated in every public square, calling for an end to the reign of the worst government in the country’s history, led by a felon who is not behind bars because he’s a sitting prime minister. The country is broken. Hamas took advantage of the internal unrest. The fate of Israel affects the entire world. On a personal level, this is the scariest time of my life. My emotions are not about taking sides, but the result of a profound existential dread. My parents are holocaust survivors. I never imagined that one day I’d be scared to tell strangers that I’m Jewish.
